Upon Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó’s proposal, President János Áder has appointed sports journalist György Szöllősi to ambassador in charge of fostering Hungary’s traditions in soccer and the heritage of Ferenc Puskás, arguably the best-known Hungarian of the second half of the 20th century.

The biggest equestrian festival in Hungary is arranged every year in Budapest in a most beautiful environment at the majestic Heroes Square. The first National Gallop was arranged in 2008 and it has since then become a popular event with lots of Hungarian culture, crowds of people and action filled horse races at the 6200m2 horse track at the Heroes Square.

Hungary’s foreign ministry has warned against the extreme risks connected with the forthcoming Budapest- Bamako trans-Saharan rally, which is scheduled to get under way on Friday. Organised for the 10th time, the 16-day adventure tour will cover a route from Morocco via Mauritania to Mali in Africa.

I had a brilliant weekend. I did the Lake Balaton Cross Swim. That’s a 5.2 km swim across the biggest freshwater lake in Central Europe. It was so rewarding and so much fun. The organisers estimate that some 7700 people did the swim in the glorious sunshine. It was a bit more than a fun-swim, given the distance. "The Government has approved an equestrian programme named after ‘Kincsem’, the historic Hungarian racehorse. This programme aims to develop the Hungarian equestrian sector and ensure its sustainability, integrating national equestrian education culture, horse riding tourism, stud farms, equestrian sports, hippotherapy and horse racing.
